• In a small randomized controlled study of pumping mothers, researchers found that warming up breasts before using an electric breast pump is associated with a significant increase in the amount of breastmilk! A compress that was warmed up in a microwave was applied to one of the breasts for 20 minutes, and both breasts were stimulated by an electric breast pump for 15 minutes. The amount of breastmilk that was collected from the warmed breasts was significantly higher than that collected from the non-warmed breasts. One theory as to why: warming our breasts may aid the oxytocin reflex!
